The historical landscape of the Old Testament is filled with dramatic shifts in power, monumental faith, and intense spiritual warfare. Welcome to Level 9 of our interactive scripture challenge, where we travel back to the golden age of Israel.
This specific trivia module is dedicated entirely to the formidable Kings who ruled the nation and the fearless Prophets who spoke directly on behalf of God.
After the period of the Judges, the people of Israel demanded a king to lead them, just like the surrounding nations. What followed was a complex history of triumphant leadership under men like David and Josiah, but also tragic downfalls under kings who turned away from God.
To counterbalance the earthly power of these rulers, God raised up Prophets—bold messengers like Elijah, Isaiah, and Daniel, who stood before thrones, performed astonishing miracles, and delivered divine warnings.

When the Israelites demanded a king, God instructed the prophet Samuel to anoint Saul, a tall and handsome man from the tribe of Benjamin, as the first king of Israel. However, his reign ultimately ended in disobedience and tragedy.
In one of the most dramatic showdowns in the Old Testament, the prophet Elijah challenged 450 prophets of Baal to see whose God could answer by fire. The Lord sent fire from heaven, consuming Elijah’s water-soaked sacrifice entirely.
God appeared to young King Solomon in a dream and offered him anything. Solomon humbly asked for a discerning heart to govern the people and distinguish right from wrong. Pleased by this, God gave him unmatched wisdom, plus the wealth and honor he did not ask for.
Josiah became king at just eight years old. During his reign, the High Priest Hilkiah found the lost Book of the Law in the temple. Upon hearing it read, Josiah tore his robes in repentance and initiated massive spiritual reforms across the nation.
Before Elijah was taken up to heaven in a whirlwind, his devoted protégé Elisha asked to inherit a double portion of his spirit. Elisha went on to perform numerous astonishing miracles, including parting the Jordan River and raising the dead.
After David secretly arranged the death of Uriah to cover up his affair with Bathsheba, God sent the prophet Nathan to confront him. Nathan used a powerful story about a stolen lamb, leading David to fiercely condemn the action before realizing he was the guilty man.
While in exile, God brought the prophet Ezekiel to a valley of dry bones and commanded him to prophesy over them. Miraculously, the bones came together, grew flesh, and breath entered them, symbolizing God’s promise to restore the nation of Israel.
God instructed the prophet Hosea to marry a woman named Gomer, who would eventually be unfaithful to him. Hosea’s painful marriage and his continued love for his wayward wife served as a profound illustration of God’s relentless love for a rebellious Israel.
As a boy serving under Eli the priest, Samuel heard a voice calling him in the night. After realizing it was the Lord, Samuel responded with a willing heart. He grew up to become one of Israel’s greatest prophets and the man who anointed its first two kings.
When King Darius signed a law forbidding prayer to any god or man except himself, Daniel faithfully continued to pray to the Lord three times a day. He was thrown into the lions’ den, but God sent an angel to shut the lions’ mouths, keeping him completely safe.
Did you know that the prophet Isaiah is often called the “Evangelist of the Old Testament”? His book contains some of the most detailed and accurate prophecies regarding the coming of Jesus Christ, written hundreds of years before the Messiah was even born!
